“We opted to use brickwork for the construction of the health centre because of the prevalence of brickwork in the area from the local houses. However, we wanted to give the building a clear commercial feel,” explains Justin.
To distinguish Nundah Community Health Centre from its surrounds and clarify its purpose, Justin designed an angular building with a strong contemporary edge. Justin says that to emphasise the modern look of the building he wanted a brick with a dark hue for the construction of the external feature walls. Says Justin:
“From the start, we had in mind a charcoal coloured brick. However, after researching suitable brick types we discovered PGH’s Blue Steel Flash and were won over by its wonderful colour. It lends to the health centre a contemporary yet timeless look.”
In total, 17,000 Blue Steel Flash bricks were used in the building of Nundah Community Health Centre. PGH was closely involved with the selection process, providing advice to the design team. Neil Belton, Architectural & Commercial Representative, who advised on the project, says that Blue Steel Flash provides a superior, long-lasting finish compared to other dark-coloured bricks:
“Unlike rival dark bricks, Blue Steel Flash has a dark background, meaning that it doesn’t matter if its face gets chipped because it is the same colour throughout the brick.” |
