Exterior home design inspiration — SOPHISTICATED NEUTRALS
The inherent adaptability of neutrals allows this style to suit a wide range of homes and lifestyles, and is popular for those looking for an understated, restrained, and sophisticated palette.
Calm and fresh, it is a palette with the ability to enlarge a space and harness and emphasise natural light. Subtle but refined shades of crisp white, stone grey, and cool concrete have long been the mainstay of interior designers and architects alike, and the most widely used and accessible of colours.
“The global appeal of neutral colours like greys, beiges, and off-whites is becoming more sophisticated,” says Sonia Simpfendorfer, Creative Director at Nexus Designs. “It is classic, timeless and exudes quiet confidence. It isn’t shouty — just calm, classic and very architectural. It produces the most flattering background, and serves as a wonderful blank canvas for both bright and muted colour as well as texture.”
Morada Blanco is a subtle neutral that epitomises this trend. Simple and sophisticated it instantly elevates a home’s elegance by borrowing these same colour tones in different natural materials.
“I suggest using lots of tones or layers,” says Simpfendorfer. “Select just one shade, like taupe, and use in different variations, like smooth bricks with painted timber, or textured pavers teamed with a high gloss front door.”
