Block ‘royalty’ Alisa and Lysandra Fraser used PGH Bricks to create urban style in an unlikely location – Queensland’s Gold Coast

It’s a slice of urban chic in the glossiest of Australia’s suburbs – welcome to the new project by the Design Duo, Alisa and Lysandra Fraser.

The twins won The Block back in 2013 and have since carved out a highly successful career in interior design, working for both residential and commercial clients all across the country.

They have just launched one of their most ambitious projects yet: a prestige four-bedroom family home in sunny Paradise Point, on Queensland’s Gold Coast. Created for long-standing clients, it’s full of custom details and high-end fixtures and finishes throughout.

The bespoke home, designed by the duo, is located on the water, over two blocks of land. A grand and impressive building, without being too imposing, the project even includes a private pontoon.

Urban Chic

One of the stars of the home is its striking exterior, featuring showstopping bricks from PGH Bricks. The house was clad in the luxurious and sleek European-style Morada Nero brick, which Lysandra says was the perfect choice for the aesthetic they wanted. “And we’ve used it throughout,” she adds.

“The choice of Morada Nero Bricks was a deliberate decision to achieve a specific look and feel,” she says.

PGH Bricks’ Morada Range is imported from Europe and boasts the highest end of luxury with the smoothest finishes in solid, colour-through brick products.

“The dark colour of the bricks creates a striking contrast against the lighter-coloured elements of the home, giving it a sophisticated and modern edge,” says Lysandra. “The quality of the bricks themselves, with their smooth texture and clean lines, further contributes to the luxurious feel of the home's exterior. The overall effect is one of understated elegance and a strong visual impact, which is a hallmark of our design approach.”

“We’ve used it at the front of the house, and we’ve also used it within the pool area. It ties all of the urban fixtures together, such as the blue stone and the charred timber.”

Low in maintenance

The house’s urban aesthetic, a style which is unusual for the Gold Coast, is also practical because it includes low-maintenance materials, such as bricks, a must-have attribute in the semi-tropical climate and waterside location of Paradise Point.

The bricks also feature poolside, with the Morada Nero providing a contemporary look to the pool cabana, and creating a link between the interiors and exterior of the home. Because bricks are almost maintenance-free, they are an ideal choice for a pool surround, with the charcoal shade framing the crisp blues of the water and the material strong enough to withstand the elements.

The clients have planned to make this their forever home, so maintenance was important to them.

“The low-maintenance property of PGH Bricks was vital to our clients because it offers them peace of mind, knowing that their property will continue to look great for years to come with minimal upkeep required,” explains Lysandra. “It allows them to focus on enjoying their home instead of worrying about its maintenance.”

“The PGH Bricks used in this home not only contribute to its aesthetic appeal, but they also provide excellent insulation to regulate the internal temperature and improve energy efficiency.”

CSR and The Design Duo

Alisa and Lysandra worked with PGH Bricks’ parent company, CSR, to source quality materials to use throughout the home, which features other CSR materials as well as the Morada bricks in Nero.

Bradford Insulation were also involved in the project, helping the home to become more comfortable for the Gold Coast climate and meet the expectations of a home with these sorts of quality finishes. Bradford products included Enviroseal wall wrap, Bradford’s Gold Hi Performance External Wall Batts, SoundScreen, Gold Ceiling Batts and Anticon Roof insulation.

“We have worked with CSR previously,” says Lysandra. “They’re always great to work with. They also have an array of products that as designers and builders we think are essential in a build or renovation. So, from that perspective, they were the perfect company to align with.”
