With inspiration drawn from architect John Perriam, the feature brick façade of the Childcare and Early Development Centre was conceived by the Interior Designer, Amy Caldwell. She was also inspired by another PGH project; The Bellbowrie Pool that uses a corbelling technique but wanted to produce a recontextualized version. She transformed the scale and visual availability of the drawings into a bright brick design on the exterior of the building. The corbelling brickwork creates shadow behind the image of a boy and girl running towards the main entrance. The abstract design is to evoke the imagination of the young minds. The design process of the unique brickwork began by sketching out multiple shapes onto a piece displaying a generic brick wall. Next pieces of extruded paper were used to decide the shadowing and colour. The described design was then translated into a 3-D image in Photoshop and passed on to the brick layers to begin construction.
