Banbury Village is the result of a former industrial site transforming into medium density building. Showcasing the decorative possibilities of multiple building materials, particularly face brick, this project was selected as a Horbury Hunt Commercial Finalist in 2012.
The developer, Cedarwoods, transformed this formerly derelict site of 5.7 hectares into a vibrant village. Encompassing an architectural diversity from detached two storey housing, to three storey apartments and townhouses, this village showcases the many wonderful possibilities of using face brick.
The selection of bricks is integral to the contextual setting in a mix of industrial, commercial, and residential. The architects, DKO, selected a palette of Blue Steel Flash from PGH Bricks Metallic range, and Black and Tan from the Smooth range. The latter makes for the dominant face brick for the apartment buildings of this developments, where bricks become a key part of the apartment's form and attractive.
The depth and colour range of the bricks selected enhance the contemporary architecture of the townhouses and provide a counterpoint to the predominate brick veneer 'skin' of the surrounding Footscray suburb.
