Following the 2011 floods, Brisbane City Council engaged Bureau Proberts Architects to design a new flood-resistant pool facility for the Bellbowrie community.
The architect worked closely with an artist to design the pattern, which references the flowering gums of the area. PGH Crevole* bricks were used to create large, free-form gum flowers that can be seen clearly from the street.
The contemporary brickwork design uses a Flemish bond bricklaying pattern incorporating two colours, and selected bricks also project out from the wall to play with light and shadow for added visual interest.
PGH Nutmeg* bricks (which are now discontinued) with an expressed flower motif provide the contrasting background to the gum flowers, and as can be seen from the photos, the result looks great.
